Bronchial Asthma in Children and Serum Levels of Stromelysin 1 (mmp-3)

چکیده
Bronchial asthma (BA) among children is an important health issue worldwide, including Bulgaria. The prevalence is increasing although the reasons are poorly understood. The common characteristics of asthma include bronchial spasm, airway remodeling with variable narrowing, bronchial hyperresponsiveness, and airway inflammation. One of the key pathogenetic mechanisms is the disturbance of the protease/antiprotease balance, as the isoenzymes of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) family are shown to participate in the airway wall remodeling in BA. The MMP-3 (Stromelysyn 1) is found to be secreted by variety of inflammatory (monocytes/macrophages) and non-inflammatory cells (airway epithelial cells and

Evaluation of Serum Levels of Calprotectin in Asthmatic Children
Background Calprotectin is a cytosolic protein that belongs to the S-100 protein group with immunomodulatory and antiproliferative actions. The level of this protein increases in infection, inflammation, and malignancy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of...
متن کاملAssociation of HLA-Class II and IgE Serum Levels in Pediatric Asthma
Background: Pediatric bronchial asthma is associated with considerable morbidity. The study was carried out to examine the association of Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA)- Class II with the disease as we found no similar study on Asian Indian population. Objective: To define the HLA-Class II antigens in Asian Indian pediatric patients with asthma. Methods: A total of 103 children with asthma and 1...
متن کاملRole of Estrogen Receptor-Alpha in an Experimental Model of Bronchial Asthma
Background: Use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may increase the risk of adult-onset asthma in women. Various in vitro studies have reported that estradiol stimulates human mast cell lines causing release of allergic mediators which was not observed in estrogen receptor-alpha (ER-alpha) knockout mice. Thus, estrogen might be a key element in occurrence of asthma. In the present study, we p...
متن کاملDetermination the Role of Endothelial Cell-Specific Molecule-1(ESM-1) in Childhood Bronchial Asthma
Background Endothelial Cell-Specific Molecule-1 (ESM-1) is a 50 kDa soluble proteoglycan that is produced mainly the vascular endothelial cells of the kidney and lung. It is produced by the effects of proangiogenic and pro-inflammatory cytokines, and it indicates activation and dysfunction of the vascular endothelium. We aimed to detect the role of ESM-1 in childre...
متن کاملSerum matrix metalloproteinase-9:Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 ratio correlates with steroid responsiveness in moderate to severe asthma.
Asthma presents a variable clinical response to corticosteroids (CS). Because CS more likely act on inflammation than on tissue remodeling, the presence of bronchial structural changes in certain asthmatics may explain their limited clinical response to CS. Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and its inhibitor, tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1), are, respectively, involved in tiss...
